Seniors:
A blistering start to the first half when we scored 2-05 to 0-01 within 15 minutes was the catalyst for a famous win back west and one which now sees into the county quarter finals which will take place in early autumn.

Few in the sizeable crowd would have anticipated such a start yet when Barry John Keane, David Moran and Cian Sayers fired over after 5 minutes Dingle were struggling to win a foothold in midfield and were clearly unsettled by the all action /all out attack which was a feature of our game.

A goal on six minutes from John Ferguson when he rifled home after good approach work was quickly followed by another goal when Gearoid Savage ( in as a substitute for the unfortunate Tommy Walsh who cried off after a minute) was on hand to dispossess the defender after Karl Mullins shot was saved and unbelievably we were 2-03 to 0-01 ahead, Dingle’s score coming from a Barry O’Sullivan effort.

Gavin O’Brien could have pushed us further ahead but his effort was beaten out but Barry John added a couple of more points from play and from a free to leave the score after 15 mins at 2-05 to 0-01 in our favour.

Gradually Dingle woke up and got back in the game yet after two wides in succession from cousins Paul & Mikey Geaney which would have derailed a lesser side they hit us for two goals in 5 minutes, first when Paul Geaney palmed in a ball and secondly when Conor Geaney lost his marker and fired high into the roof of Gary Kissan’s net.

Barry John from a free and a scorching shot from Con Barrett which could easily have been a goal left us in front by the minimum at half time 2-07 to 2-06.

The interval was an opportunity for all to draw breath and when hostilities resumed, again we were the first to register a score when Barry John pointed a free and the a minute later added another from play to leave us 3 ahead.

Jack Savage then added another from play and when David landed a “45” on the 35th minute we were 5 to the good; a further score from Gazza and another from David Moran left us six clear on 14 mins.

Dingle were thrown a lifeline then when a ball ricocheted off the bar and was cleared by con Barrett but the referee deemed the clearance was a foul and awarded a penalty; Paul Geaney stepped up but was foiled by a brilliant save from Gary Kissane but the rebound fell kindly to Paul and he found the net to bring them back into the game.

Remarkably despite a further period of 15 mins there were only two more points from Conor Geaney and Matthew Flaherty and when the referee blew for full time we were still one ahead , 2-13 to 3-09.

This was a tremendous win hewn from sheer grit, will to win and a never say die attitude. In mid fielders David Moran and Con Barrett we had the best on view with Ross O’Callaghan not far behind in curbing the influence of Paul Geaney.

Our half back line with Cormac Coffey outstanding in curtailing Mikey Geaney was ably assisted by Karl Mullins and Cian Sayers. Up front Jack pulled the strings on the “40”, was always available for the outball and Barry John chipped in with 6 points, 0-04 from play.

We now look forward to a break until the league resumes in two weeks time and will play a quarter final some time in early autumn.

Round 2 will take place this coming Friday night 26th May when Gneeveguilla are the visitors to Healy Park.

Charlie Kerins: Charlie Kerins had their first outing of the year on Friday night last 20th when Ardfert were the visitors to Healy Park; a blend of youth and experience was not enough to deny the visitors who were victorious on a final score line of 5-12 to 2-04.

U-14 Boys:

A very busy week last week with the lads having 2 games; they travelled to Ballyheigue on Monday night 15th to take on the locals with a win guaranteeing them a semi final place. This they did with much aplomb when dismissing the opposition on a very impressive 5-16 to 3-01 score line – indeed the opposition were held scoreless in the first half when facing the strong breeze; everyone played well on the night but special mention to Sean Healy who was tireless in midfield, Darragh O’Connor a will o the wisp up front and Danny Hennessy who helped himself to two goals.

This result saw the boys travel to Beaufort on Weds night for the league semi final; facing a physically stronger side and coupled with the exertions of Monday night saw the lads start slowly and they were soon adrift following a couple of goals by the Beaufort forwards; they settled well in the second half but there was too much of a mountain to climb and were eventually beaten on a final score line of 5-12 to 3-05; well done to all the players and to Denis & Mark who have been excellent coaches all season.
U-16 boys: The Central League final played in Castlegregory on Tuesday night last was abandoned due to the injury suffered by our centre back Ben Foley in an accidental clash in the first half; Ben is happily now recovered and sincere thanks is offered to all who helped out on the night but most especially Kay Hayes and Marie Nix and the paramedics and ambulance crew; also to the locals who helped out. The match will be replayed at a later date.
