Seniors:
All Ireland club champions Dr Crokes proved too good at a sun drenched Strand Rd where they ran out winners in round 6 of the county league on a final score line of 4-17 to 1-12.

Fielding just 6 of the team that started in the championship vs Dingle, this was always going to be an uphill struggle against a team with the range of quality attackers and options possessed by the Killarney side who boasted Daithi Casey, Gavin O’Shea, Brian Looney and Kieran O’Leary in their starting line up and supplemented by recent All Ireland minor winners David Naughten & Jordan Kiely.

However, we gave as good as we got for long periods and many of your younger players will have benefited from the experience especially the likes of Killian Moran in goal, Gary Nolan, Darragh McElligott and the exciting Gearoid Dillane up front.

We started brightly and with Gearoid Savage prominent we led by 0-4 to 0-2 after 7 minutes with Gearoid supplying 3 of these ( all from play) and the marauding Ross O’Callaghan firing over for after good approach work by Cian Sayers.

A wayward kick out saw Crokes hit us for their first goal when Daithi Casey found the net and minutes later we were again picking the ball out of the net when Jordan Kiely found the bottom corner after wriggling free.

We never gave up however and had good scores again from Gearoid followed by a Karl Mullins point but it was the pacey Gearoid Dillane who provided the best score when he latched onto a ball and was unlucky not to find the net with great drive – we trailed at half time by 2-08 to 0-7.

The first score of the second half was a fine goal by John Ferguson who worked tirelessly all evening and was to be our only scorer in this half when notching 1-05. Rory Molloy having won the throw in fed John who drove a blistering shot past Shane Murphy for a capital goal, 2-08 to 1-07.

Crokes greater attacking threat was soon evident however and leading 2-10 to 1-07 Ambrose O’Donovan ( on as a second half substitute), ghosted in past our defence and found the net; we continued to probe for scores and John Ferguson kept the score board ticking over with 5 further points, 4 from frees. The game ended with Daniel Nix, Shane Flavin and John Dillane getting a taste of county league action as the selectors emptied the bench.

Team: Killian Moran, Andrew Thompson, Danny O’Sullivan, Gary Nolan, Jason O’Leary, Ross O’Callaghan ( 0-1), Darragh McElligott, Rory Molloy, Cian Sayers, Padraig Griffin, Karl Mullins (0-1), John Keane, Gearoid Savage ( 0-4), John Ferguson ( 1-5), Gearoid Dillane ( 0-1).

We have a two week break now until we play John Mitchels in Ballyseedee on Sat night 1st July.

We played John Mitchels in Round 5 of the Co. League last Wednesday- a great game from start to finish. We battled against a strong breeze in the first half and the rain never eased off during the game. Mitchels started off the better scoring 4 points but our girls worked hard and both teams were level at half time.
Katie Nix and Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy had a great game and scored 2-4 between them. Hollie Leane, Lauren Doody and Nathali Mulumba had a great game in the backs and Keelan Coffey played a stormer in midfield. Final score on the night 2-9 to 1-5. Well done girls!
