SENIORS: IT was nip and tuck all the way in Templenoe but eventually we came good in the second half to take the two points on offer against a resolute and determined home side who never gave up and were still attacking at the final whistle.

Playing with the aid of  a slight breeze in the first half we were quickly out of the blocks and led by 0-03 to 0-01 after 5 minutes following scores from Tommy Walsh (2) and Cormac Coffey – a late addition to the panel.

Templenoe having added a point then struck for the first of their two goals when a quick ball inside saw the corner forward lose his marker and fire to the net; worse was to follow in the 15th minute when the home side again breached our defence raising another green flag – it was now 2-03 to 0-05 and we looked to be in trouble.

Ross O’Callaghan was moved from his full back berth to mark Killian Spillane at centre back and this was to have a more settling effect on the side – Danny O’Sullivan and Shane Brosnan too were to the fore and we pegged back the deficit to one  point following 3  good scores from Gearoid Savage, who had the beating of  his man.

The home side again fought back and two points before half time to a pointed free from Tommy Walsh left the score at the short whistle – 2-05 to Templenoe to our 0-09.

Though facing the breeze in the second half we began in determined fashion and Tommy had the margin down  to the minimum when pointing a free; a good inter change of passing saw John Ferguson bearing down on goal but he was taken out of it by two defenders and the referee pointed to the penalty spot – strangely he failed to administer any further punishments by way of cards when black looked the obvious colour to brandish – Tommy kept his composure and fired the penalty high  to the roof of the net, 1-10 to 2-05 – shortly afterwards Cormac increased this to 3 points with a great score from far out.

The scores were level on  3 further occasions from here to the end as both sides vied for supremacy   – with 22 minutes gone it was 1-13 to 2-10 but we raised 3 of the next 4 white flags all  frees from Tommy who was unerring all through – the final point went to the home side but it was too little, too late and we emerged victorious.

This was a very encouraging start to the league and two valuable points gained; in the end, it was down to big performances in the final 10 minutes from Ross O’Callaghan, Con Barrett, John C O’Connor,  Gavin O’Brien, Cormac Coffey and Tommy Walsh that ensured we were victorious. We next play St Marys in Strand Road on Sunday 25th March in round 2.

Team: Gary Kissane, Danny O’Sullivan, Ross O’Callaghan, David Murphy, Cian Sayers, Shane Brosnan, Karl Mullins, Con Barrett, John C O’Connor, Gavin O’Brien ( 0-02), Tommy Walsh ( 1-08), Cormac Coffey ( 0-02), Gazza Savage ( 0-03), Diarmuid O’Sullivan, John Ferguson ( 0-01). Division 5:

Our B team under the management of Eugene McGrath and assisted by Tony Corridon and Liam Kissane made their bow in Division 5, Group A when taking on Scartaglin in our first outing on Sunday. Though short a no of players, they performed with merit eventually succumbing to a physically stronger side on a final score line of 3-11 to 0-08.

The next game in this competition is on week end of 25th March when we are home to Churchill.

Strictly Club Dancing:
With less than a week to go to our 2nd annual show, the dancers have ramped up their rehearsals to ensure all will be right on the night; rehearsals, for the most part,  have been taking place in the Brandon hotel but having had a preview of some of the moves, one would suspect that some extra drills are being performed at home!

Choreographer Jackie O’Mahony, has along with all participants, worked tirelessly to bring together a thrilling spectacular and its  not to be missed.

It’s a night for the community to come together, have some fun and banter and as well as raising funds for the club, two charities will also benefit to the tune of €500.

The judges on the night (Mary Gaine, Rosie McGrath, Terry O’Brien and Seán O’Sullivan) will nominate a winner and there will also be a popular votes winner as voted by the audience; you can vote in advance for your preferred couple by logging on to our website ( kerinsorahillys.com) and following the instructions there in.

Tickets for the night (€20 adults, U-15s €10)  are still available from the club house, Morans Foodstore or any of the participants but are selling fast, so dont be disappointed, get yours early. The show is timed for 8 pm, doors opening at 7.

U-14: Our U-14 boys had a comprehensive win over town rivals Austin Stacks on Saturday evening in the Coiste Trá Lí league winning on a final score line of 5-17 to 2-10 in a game played at Healy Park. Aided by the stiff breeze in the first half, we took the game to our opponents and had our first score, a goal from Tomás Kennedy within minutes; this was quickly followed by points from full forward Danny Hennessy and centre forward Ben O’Brien before Ben Hanafin,  fired to the net to leave us 2-02 to nil ahead; Stacks gradually got into the game and had registered 1-03 on the score board but we finished the half in style when Ben O’Brien had another goal which was followed by another Danny Hennessy point.

The second period saw Stacks more in the game and after 10 minutes we were a goal to the good, 3-06 to 2-06; however, we then took over around middle third with midfielders Jack Savage and Seán Healy to the fore and tacked on 2-04 without reply in the following 10 minutes; our defence too was outstanding with our half backs of Gearoid Meehan, Eric McMahon and Coren Hughes in unforgiving mood   and any time Stacks threatened our rearguard, Jake Foley, Tom Flavin and Matthew Higgins were equal to the task.

Overall this was a fine team effort with each and every player playing their part.

Team: Thomas Maguire, Jake Foley, Tom Flavin, Matthew Higgins, Gearoid Meehan, Eric McMahon, Coren Hughes, Jack Savage, Seán Healy, Ben Hanafin, Ben O’Brien, Cian Moran, Cormac Gallagher, Danny Hennessy & Tomás Kennedy. Sub used: Conor Cronin
