Senior Munster Club Championship Semi Final Result.
Kerins O Rahillys 1-09 Eire Og Ennis 1-08

Sunday evening in Austin Stacks Park saw us take on the Clare Champions Eire Og Ennis in the Semi Final of this years Senior  Munster Club Championship.

We got off to a blistering start with the US based Gavin O Brien winning the throw in , powering through the Eire Og defence and offloading to Jack Savage, who slotted over from close range.

A minute later a speculative ball into the square was met with the fist of the inrushing Tommy Walsh, to put us into a nice early lead. We should have stretched our lead in the minutes after when we wasted a couple of good scoring opportunities. The Clare men then kicked the next three scores to bring themselves right back into the contest.

Jack Savage converted a free in the fourteenth minute to put us two up again.
Then came the biggest talking point of the game , when the referee brandished a second yellow card in as many minutes to David Moran, much to the bemusement of everyone in attendance.

To our credit our reaction was not one of panic, Tommy Walsh kicked a point from play and then  won a superb mark thirty yards out and converted the kick to put the score 1-04 to 0-03.

Eire Og were then awarded a close in free just before the half time whistle, this was converted to leave the blues with a three point advantage at the break and some thinking to do as we faced the second half with a man down.

The second half opened similar to the first with the Gavin O Brien gaining possession from the throw in  and taking on the defence , this time kicking a great score from distance to give the blues the perfect start to the half.

Jack Savage then converted a free. But then the Clare outfit showed why they are back to back County Champions when then dragged themselves right back into the contest with a great goal from wing back Eanna O Connor.

Again our response was to be commended, another of our exiles , Cormac Coffey , kicked a terrific score after one of his customary driving runs, and Jack Savage punished the resultant poor kick out with another point.

This put us four points to the good again. Eire Og then gained a strong foothold around the middle of the field and had a period of dominance which was rewarded with a point to leave just three between the sides with ten minutes to go.

Eire Og went on to score the next two points to leave the minimum between the sides.
However when it was needed most the influential Gavin O Brien linked up well with Cormac Coffey and Karl Mullins to make another bursting run through the heart of the Eire Og defence to fire over a blistering shot to relieve some of the pressure. This was to be our last score of the game.

For the last few remaining minutes it was nail biting stuff, as both teams were guilty of some very poor turnovers.

Indeed Eire Og will regret not converting what looked like a certain goal after we gave away possession from a free we had on our own fifty metre line. Were it not for a superb block down by Darragh McElligott we may well have lost the tie.

Shortly after the final whistle blew, and the blues ,while far from our best , were elated to reach our first Munster Club Final since 2009.

Management will be delighted with the manner in which the team dug out the victory in the face of adversity, the character shown by the players was outstanding on the day.

We now advance to play Newcastlewest in the final on Saturday December 10th at a venue to be decided.

Scorers for Kerins O’Rahillys: T Walsh 1-2 (0-1 mark); J Savage 0-4 (0-2 frees); G O’Brien (0-2); C Coffey (0-1).
