Seniors:
We open our county league Division 1 season next Friday, St Patrick’s Day when we welcome Castleisland Desmonds to Strand Road – throw in is at 11.00 am to facilitate those wishing to view/participate in the local parade.

The lineout will see us take the field without many familiar faces with Jack Savage, Cian Sayers, Gavin O’Brien and Cormac Coffey abroad and Padraig Neenan returning to his boyhood club of Cortoon Shamrocks.

In addition there are a few injury doubts but the long list of absentees will be offset by the return to county league action of David Moran and should provide opportunities for the likes of Darragh O’Connor,Jake Foley, Stephen Nix, Ben Hanafin and others to stake a claim for starting positions further down the road.

Castleisland Desmonds will be formidable opponents having gained promotion from Div 2 and have won 2 of the last 3 North Kerry championships.

They are now under the guidance of former Mallow bainisteoir and Aunascaul native, Keith Moynihan, and will be anxious to get off to a winning start.

Our division 6 team will open their campaign with an away fixture to Dr Crokes C and confirmation of the fixture will be notified on social media and ClubZap.

Congratulations to David Moran on being selected on the All Ireland club team of the year @ No 8 – no surprise given his displays but the selection of 13 players from the finalists is remarkable taking into account how close the semi finals were – we certainly could lay claim to one or two others making the chosen XV.

Mark Fitzgerald has taken the reins in Limerick following the departure of Ray Dempsey after just 5 games in charge – Mark will oversee the remaining league games and we would like to wish him all the best in his endeavours.

Masters Challenge:

Frank O’Connor launched our annual fundraiser on Friday night in Strand Road – this is a key part of our fundraising for the year and we would ask as many as possible to take part; tickets are available from all club members and online via ClubZap ( Kerins O’Rahillys | Launch of Masters Challenge 2023 (kerinsorahillys.com)

Rock St Club Lotto Competition:

We are in competition with 2 other clubs and given the considerable sales we make weekly from this outlet it’s crucial that we maintain our exclusive right to sell our tickets here.

St Patrick’s Day Parade:

We hope that as many as possible join this year’s parade as we march as Kerry & Munster club champions; we would love to see a big turnout across all sectors of the club.
The parade will leave from John Joe Sheehy Road – more on this on social media later in the week.

The news on Sunday night of the sudden and untimely death of Liam Kearns sent shockwaves throughout the GAA community but most especially here in Tralee and the Austin Stacks club.

Liam was well known in latter years as a most capable bainisteoir having managed Limerick, Laois & Tipperary – he also guided Limerick to an U21 All Ireland final before losing to Tyrone.

He was a star minor, winning an All Ireland minor medal in 1980 before going on to U-21 and made 10 league appearances for Kerry from 1984-1990. To his family and friends, we offer our deepest condolences.

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN

Ever wonder what we as parents gain by paying our daughter’s registration … Firstly for insurance purposes in case of injuries but there’s more!

We pay for the opportunity for our daughter to have and make friends for life. We pay for her to learn to work with her teammates and coaches and to be a kind, proud, respectful, supportive team member. We pay for our child to learn to be disciplined.

Our children have amazing coaches that teach them that football is not just about a game and winning but about life skills. Children learn to deal with disappointment, maybe when they lose the ball, miss a score or lose a game. They don’t give up and are more determined to keep going.

Success doesn’t happen overnight and playing a team sport helps them learn that they need to practice their skills and put in the work if they want to achieve more. They learn to aim for what they want and not give up.

They are learning to solve problems, make decisions, think critically and creatively, communicate, build good relationships, coping skills and empathy.

Registering your daughter keeps her active on the pitch instead of sitting in front of a device . She develops attributes that will serve her for life.

And remember in Strand Road we are only too happy to welcome your daughter during the year. For more details text or whatsapp Shirley (086) 8713552

U12 GIRLS
Definitely the hardest working ladies in the parish of Tralee… rain, hail or snow nothing stops these fun loving girls who are enjoying their football while learning and getting fit and more importantly making friends! Huge welcome back to Eimear after her surgery.
Final Astro training session next Saturday in Tralee Sports Complex at 12p.m. Then it’s outdoors girls! Roll on match fixtures…

U14 GIRLS
Beidh an chéad chluiche don séasúr na peile ag tarlú go luath. Looking forward to seeing you in action in the coming weeks.

Best wishes to our players Allie, Aoife and Lily in the annual Munster blitz in Mallow next Saturday when they line out for Kerry.

U16 GIRLS
It was Baltic last Thursday evening for training but this didn’t stop each scáthach braving the elements and enjoying her football. Well done ladies .

We must not forget their coaches Mike and Dan who volunteer their time and believe that one is never too old to have the bit of craic.

Well done to our U16s, Kelly, Aoibheann and Saoirse who lined out for Kerry last Sunday against Cork in Cloughduv in inclement weather … unfortunately it was not to be for the Kerry U16s. Best wishes to all involved next week when they are away to Waterford in round 3.

MINORS
The players were itching to get out there training last Friday evening. A cold evening but a very enjoyable session by all accounts and great feedback from the girls on John’s excellent drills. Congrats to Kerry minors on their win over Tipp in round 3 of Munster championship .

SENIORS
Danny put the ladies through their paces and what a brilliant workout was had by all.
Well done to the MTU team, management and our club player Liana Williams who played Ulster University Gaelic Academy in the Ladies HEC Giles Cup final last Saturday… not the result the team were hoping for on the day but a great achievement. Well done!

REGISTRATION
There are less than 3 weeks left until the registration deadline. We are getting things in order so a gentle reminder to everyone who hasn’t had a chance to register to do so as soon as possible. Many thanks to everyone who has paid their membership so far.
