Senior Football

The Tralee town board championship  final took place today in our own Strand Rd where we faced Ballymacelligott, the fixture having been postponed a few weeks ago.

The desire to get our own hands on some silverware was evidenced by the presence of our inter county players and though conceding the first score we quickly got in to our stride when Barry John Keane goaled after 4 minutes following some good work by Cormac Coffey and Tommy Walsh followed a minute later with a good point.

From there to the 15th minute we dominated possession, John C  O’Connor and David Moran being particularly prominent and with plenty of ball our inside line racked up the scores to leave us leading by 2-5 to 0-1 with Jack Savage to the fore landing 3 points, Barry John with another minor and Johnny Keane  finishing coolly to the net after a fine team move.

Cian Sayers later got in on the act when he found the net on 17 mins and despite conceding a converted penalty we retired at the break leading on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-3; our backs were coping comfortably with the opposition with Shane Brosnan and David Murphy being particularly effective.

On the resumption we took up where we left off with 2 good scores from wing forward Diarmuid O’Sullivan and when the ref awarded Tommy Walsh a penalty it looked like the floodgates would open; however Barry John’s shot cannoned off the post with the keeper beaten and this seemed to lift the Ballymac lads who tacked on some good scores to reduce the deficit to 4 points after 12 mins, 3-9 to 2-8.

That was as good as it got though and with Barry John, Tommy and Jack calling the shots we fired over 5 points without reply the pick of them being a fine effort from David Moran off his left from distance; we closed out the game with fine efforts from Tommy ( 2) and Barry John to leave the final scoreline on 3-19 to 2-10.

Pat McAuliffe of the board presented the cup to winning captain Danny O’Sullivan and the Man of the Match award to a deserving Barry John who notched 1-3 in total but was a constant menace to Ballymac with his selfless running off the ball and his awareness in bringing better placed colleagues into the play. This game signalled the end of our football for 2016 but with confirmation that the management team of Morgan and Micheal are to remain at the helm for 2017 there is much to look forward to.

Club AGM

The Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday the 3rd of December at 7.30pm in the Bistro at the club.

Austin Stack Park Stewards

As Tralee clubs we should all be very proud of the new development at Austin Stack Park. However in order to hold games there in safety there will have to be proper stewarding provided for all games. Tralee clubs need to get behind this so we would appreciate it if you could give some of your time to help out. The same people will not be need for every game. Kerry GAA will provide full training. Contact Breda Dyland for information.

Christmas Fair

We will be holding a Christmas Fair at the club on the 11th of December. There will be a bake sale, crafts, gifts, raffles, lots for the kids and much more on the day. We need volunteers to bake, donate crafts etc and volunteer on the day.

Please contact Shirley Doody, Marie Nix or Kathy McCarthy for information. We hope you support this as we are supporting a very worthy local charity with the day.

Ladies night out

Kerins O’Rahillys ladies started to wind up their year on Saturday last with a night of appreciation for the volunteerism and support shown by the women in the club over the last year.  64 attended and started the night with a wonderful meal served in Cassidy’s where there were lots of speeches, spot prizes and fun through out the night.

Following Cassidy’s the ladies continued their night and were welcomed in the Abbey where they danced and sang and handed out many more prizes until the small hours.

Thanks to chief organisers Shirley Doody and Marie Nix and to all those who contributed prizes for the night. Thanks also to Cassidy’s for a wonderful meal and to the Abbey for a very entertaining evening.
