U6/8/10/Girls Our Saturday Club had its last training session before the Summer break on Saturday last. Everyone, both boys and girls, had training and games and were then presented with a Training top by Kerry footballer Barry John Keane.

Barry John also presented trophies to the winners of the U10 skills competition. They were 1st Eric McMahon, 2nd Jack Savage and joint 3rd Seán Healy and Ben O’Brien. The highlight of the morning was the visit of the ice cream van and the sun shone while everyone ate their assortment of cones.

Huge credit goes to all of our coaches at U6, U8, U10 and the U8/10 girls. They show up week after week and give freely of their time for training and blitzes. Thanks to all of you.

Without you there would be no Saturday Club.

Senior Football

U21s Kerins O’Rahillys U21s travelled to Ardfert on Wednesday last to play St Brendan’s in the first round of the U21 football championship.

They played against a stiff breeze in the first half and in what was a very low scoring game the sides went in Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 to St Brendan’s 0-04 at half time.

Kerins O’Rahillys looked the stronger side in the second half and did go ahead following a goal scored by Paul Griffin but it wasn’t to be and despite some strong performances from Cian Sayers, Gary Nolan and Jason O’Leary St Brendan’s shaved it on a final score of Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 St Brendan’s 1-06.

Minors

Kerins O’Rahillys minors play in round 1 of the Minor Football Championship against Austin Stacks this Wednesday the 9th at 7pm in Strand Road.

Mouth-Guards

As you may be aware it will be compulsory for all players senior right down to juvenile to wear mouth-guards at training sessions and when playing games. This comes into effect for seniors from 1st January 2014 and has been in effect for all others since last January.

If players fail to wear mouth guards they will not be permitted to participate in football training or matches. No mouthguard No game! Further information on this rule can be found online at http://www.gaa.ie.

Congratulations
We would like to congratulate all three Kerry teams who won Munster titles this week. All had connections with the Club. First out on Wednesday evening last were the Kerry Juniors.

They played Cork in Austin Stack Park and won on a score of Kerry 3-14 Cork 0-13. Well done to all and especially our own Timmy O’Sullivan who is a selector with the team. This was the start of what was to prove a winning streak for Kerry.

Next up were the Minors on Sunday against Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoímh. They out of the three Kerry teams fought the hardest battle for their title but did come out victorious on a score of Kerry 2-17 Cork 2-13. Well done to the Management and team and in particular to our own Cormac Coffey who had a fine game.

The first, we hope, of many. Well done also to Alan O’Sullivan physical trainer with the Kerry minors. Lastly and by no means least it was the Kerry Seniors out against Cork.

Cork looked dangerous for all of 5 minutes before Kerry took the upper hand and dominated the game thereafter giving us a showcase of pure footballing genius. The game finished on a score of Kerry 0-24 Cork 0-12 with every player playing his part. Well done to the Management and especially our own Barry John Keane and David Moran.

Ladies Football
U14/U16 Our U16 Girls are back in Co League action. They played Beale on Thursday last. With only 12 players the girls were spread thin across the pitch but were led off to a flying start by Emma McCarthy.

At half time we were up 0-7 to 0-2 thanks to some great scores from Hannah Stack, Shannon Quill and Shannon McInerney. In the second half Beale scored 3 fast goals and it looked like the game was slipping away from us but Rebecca Duggan (Capt) pulled off some great saves to keep us in it.

A goal from Shannon McInerney brought us back into it as the girls started to take control of the game. After another few points Emma McCarthy was brought down just outside the goals and was awarded a penalty. Shannon McInerney stepped up to take it and drove the ball into the back of the net.

At the final whistle the score was 2-10 to 3-2. Another great win for the U16 Ladies!!!

Other players to impress were Megan McBride, Jodie O’Halloran, Isabelle Bailey and Caitlin Crowe. The girls played Abbeydorney last week. The U16 Ladies were away to Abbeydorney on Thursday 26th of June. With only 10 players we took to the field and the girls gave it their all.

We emerged victorious beating Abbeydorney 1-6 to 0-4. Well done to the girls and their mentors. U14 and U16 Ladies train every Tuesday at 6.15 in Ballyrickard.
