Kerry Archaeological And Historical Society Marks Golden Jubilee With Seminar

THE Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society hosted a seminar to mark the Golden Jubilee of its foundation at Kerry Library on Tuesday, February 14.

The very well-attended seminar was chaired by Gerard Lyne, historian and former Keeper of Antiquities at the National Library of Ireland.

The four speakers that participated in the event were Isabel Bennett, Kathleen Browne, Dónal J. O’Sullivan and Marie O’Sullivan.

Isabel is an archaeologist, museum curator at Músaem Chorca Duibhne, lecturer and former editor of the Journal of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society.

Kathleen is a former Kerry County Librarian, a founding member of the Society and a former society secretary and president.

Donal is a retired Chief Superintendent of An Garda Síochána. He has published many books and is also a regular contributor to both The Kerry Magazine and the Journal of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society.

Marie is an archaeologist, lecturer, contributor to and editor of The Kerry Magazine and current society president.

The Society has many more events coming up, with a Dublin outing and lecture to be held in March at Mountjoy Prison Museum, a lecture on ‘Wandering with a purpose- the archeology of Cosán na Naomh’ in April, and Field outings in May, June and July. For more information, visit their website.
