The Annascaul Badminton Club hosted their annual tournament on Sunday last and despite clashing with the Kerry/ Dublin National League final a sizeable entry from across the County descended on the West Kerry village to take part in the last Kerry competition for the 2015/2016 season.

No doubt but Tralee’s County Clubman Mariusz Tusinski will look back on the past season with a deep sense of pride, and justly so.

In recent weeks the Polish native captured the division 3 mens doubles title with James Sheehan of Moyvane and then went on to win the mixed doubles crown again with a Moyvane partner, Carmel Hudson. Sunday last saw him finish the season in style by taking the Annascaul title in the combined division 2 and 3 competition partnered with Killarney’s Sandra O’Connor they came out on top in a gruelling 3 set battle.

Results as follows;

Div 5: Colum Carroll (Ballyheigue) & Sue Weatherill (Iveragh) beat Christy Dean (Annascaul) & Jennifer Murphy (Listowel) in 2 sets 21-13, 21-15

Div 4: Jebin John (County,Tralee )& Paula O Sullivan (Ballyheigue) beat Aidan Evans (Annascaul) & Marie Flynn (Kingdom) in 2 sets 21-12, 21-18

Div 2 & 3 Combined: Mariusz Tusinski (County) & Sandra O Connor (Killarney) beat Kieran Crehan (Killarney) & Lisa Sayers (Annascaul) in 3 sets 21-19, 13-21, 19- 21

The next Badminton competitions with a Kerry involvement will be the All Ireland club finals which will be held in Dublin on Sunday May 8th and the Moyvane Club will have no less than 3 teams taking part having recently won the Munster Grades E,F and G titles.

No doubt but the respective team managers are putting their charges through an extensive training programme as they gear up for the major challenge ahead.

Again, to all those who intend to support the Annual Kerry Badminton Rewards night, to be held at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee on Saturday night May 14th, please engage your ticket from your club secretary without delay.
