Kerry Senior Badminton held the Knock Out Cup competition in Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre On Sunday for divisions 3, 4 and 5 with a total of 13 teams taking part.

The Division 4 Knock Out Cup Competition took place in Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre Sunday November 6. This photograph shows the Listowel Division 4 Team who won the Competition. 3 teams took part in division 3, Moyvane, Kingdom (Castleisland) and Killarney and they played each other on a round robin format. Moyvane won on 8 points and Kingdom were 2nd on 5 points with Killarney 3rd on 5 points just losing out on sets. The winning Moyvane team were William Flaherty, Jamie Elliott, Chris McCarthy, Timmy Griffin, Fran Collins, Jeanelle Griffin, Carmel Hudson and Amanda Carmody. The runners up Kingdoms team consisted of Kevin Keane, Tom Clear, Jebin John, Brendan McGovern, Maggie Prendiville, Renee Lenihan, Michelle Beazley and Claire Cahill.

7 teams took part in division 4 and were divided into 2 groups. Moyvane, Kingdom, Annascaul and Iveragh played each other in 1 group with Moyvane coming out on top.
In the 2nd group Listowel, Causeway and Killarney played each other and Listowel qualified for the final against Moyvane. In the Division 4 final Listowel took the honours on a score of 5-1
The winning Listowel team included Anthony Barrett, Paul Hayes, Mike Moloney, James Sheahan, Rita McCarthy, Lucy Guiney, Margaret Healy and Bernie Rowe. Moyvane team were Timmy Flaherty, John Newman, Liam O’Connor, Micheal Collins, Denise Collins, Eleanor Sheehan, Michelle Corridan and Ciara Hudson.

3 teams took part in division 5, Moyvane, Kingdom and Killarney and they played each other and Killarney were the winners on 7 points with Moyvane in 2nd place on 6 points and Kingdom 3rd with 5 points. The winning Killarney team were Daniel O’Connor, Paul Mertine, Jordan O’Connor, Sonia Smith, Olivia Wesolowska, Lorna Breen and Donna Buckley. The runners up Moyvane included
Mirek Jesko, Kevin Hudson, Padraig Hanrahan, Matthew Moore, Marie Kennelly, Aoife Bowler, Aoife Curtin and Jola Lagan.

With the clocks now having gone back the hour to winter time there are many people that will be still looking for some past time to pass away those long winter nights.

For the sports minded the game of badminton might be your answer. Badminton is the worlds fastest racquet sport and is a most competitive sport. Indeed Badminton was one of the success stories of the recent Rio Olympics and many people who were not familiar with the sport were amazed at the speed and skill of Badminton and, indeed, it is a wonderful social outlet also.

The Kerry Badminton Association’s adult individual programme commences on Sunday next November 13th with the Annual November Handicap competitions which caters for all divisions. Indeed, this is just one of the 2 days on the Kerry Badminton programme that all 5 divisions within the County will compete together on the one day. The second one will be in 3 weeks time, December 4th which is called Tournament Sunday.

For Sunday next divisions 4 and 5 will commence proceedings at 2 pm. For many of these division 5 players, who are beginners to the sport, this will be their first taste of competitive badminton and best wishes are extended to all.. Division 3 will commence at 3.30 pm with the combined programme for the division 1 & 2 players to take court at 4 pm

The Kerry Juvenile badminton season started in Killarney Sports and Leisure CentreĀ on Saturday with 120 children taking parts from all over Kerry in the draw for partners Competition.
