The October Bank Holiday weekend is almost upon us; The clocks go back the one hour so the winter season has arrived once again and we face those long dark nights.

For many, winter time can be a lonely period as they feel that they have no outlet to while away those long nights but there is an outlet for those who would like to take part in an exciting, active sport that is played throughout the whole of Ireland and that is the sport of Badminton.

Not alone is badminton an active sport, but it is also a great social outlet suitable for all ages where people meet up and can forge life long friendships.

The Irish Badminton Association was formed in 1899 and it is known that the sport was played in Kerry as far back as the first decade of the 20th century.

Indeed, in a very recent scientific survey on various sports, deemed that in the game of badminton “From a low drop shot at the net to an overhead clear or smash”, can be the most strenuous cardiovascular movement of any sport”

For anyone living in Kerry, or beyond, the following are contacts throughout the County that can give you advice if you wish to take up the sport that is acclaimed in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest of all racquet sports.

Do consider taking up the wonderful sport of Badminton for these long winter months, you won’t find the time flying by.

All club officers are requested to have their members affiliated and registered without delay as the first Kerry competitions of the new season will be the team events for the Knockout cups which will be played in Killarney on Sunday November 19th in Killarney with the annual November handicap competitions which caters for players of all divisions will take place the following Sunday Dec. 3rd at the same Killarney venue.

Please note that all of the Kerry adult events that will be played in Killarney this coming season will commence at 1 pm which is one hour earlier than in former years.

DELEGATE MEETING
The rearranged County Delegate meeting, postponed from Friday night last, will now take place on this Wednesday night, October 25th, at the Grand Hotel, Tralee, commencing at 8 pm. All club delegates are requested to attend

The executive of the Kerry Badminton Association would like to take this opportunity to wish all clubs, and all their members, every success both on and off court for the coming season.
