Even though it’s an indoor sport, the snow fall of last week certainly put paid to the sport of badminton as well as most of the other sports last weekend as travelling was just out of the question and the health and safety of all participants must always be the first priority.
So the Kerry badminton programme of the division 2&4 doubles championships and the juvenile tournaments as well as the Munster Brewster Cup competition which was fixed for Roscrea all fell by the wayside.
The re-fixtures of last week’s Kerry programme is as follows; Division 2&4 ladies and mens doubles will now be played in Killarney on Monday March 19th to commence at 6 pm. The juvenile tournaments have been refixed for Good Friday, March 30th also in Killarney, to commence at 11am The Brewster Cup Munster competition is yet to be rescheduled.
With the snow now gone, hopefully, the Badminton programme for this coming weekend will centre around the first phase of the CPC.IE sponsored mixed doubles County Championships to be played in the Killarney Sports arena this coming Friday night to commence at 7.30 and will feature divisions 1,3&5.
As this is generally a large programme to work with, all players , court helpers and coordinators are requested to check in on time
Sunday next will also see the progressive Annascaul Club host their annual tournaments in the local Sports Hall and this will cater for divisions 2 to 5 .The programme is as follows;
Division 5 will open the proceedings to commence at 12 noon; div.4 at 2.30 pm. Divs 2&3 combined at 4 pm. Entry forms are now with each club secretary but contact can also be made with Lisa Sayers at 085 2734648 or email to lisasayers@gmail.com.
Hopefully all of the other Kerry Clubs will give great support to the Annascaul Club on their venture as these club tournaments are generally most enjoyable events away from the serious aspect of league and championships competition where players can partner and meet up with those from other clubs and yet the honour of winning a club tournament is high on the list of each competing player. So, do support Annascaul which is one of the strongholds of Kerry Badminton in recent times
Munster Competitions
Munster competition on Sunday next will focus on both Cappoquin and Killarney. The Waterford venue will host the Munster singles finals, a competition which sees the singles winners from each County meet up in each division to play off for the honour of being the overall Munster champion in each division. Best wishes is extended to all Kerry competitors taking part.
The Killarney Sports Arena will host the Munster Grade C inter County team championships and 4 Counties will compete in this, namely Kerry, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford. Round 1 will see Cork v Tipperary with Kerry taking on Waterford. Round 2 will have winners v losers from round 1. Play is due to commence at 10.30 am
