First Championship of 2023

Last Friday, we held the first of this years championships in Tralee Sports Complex. The division 1,3&5 mens and ladies singles took place.

Once again, it was great to see such a big entry and also lovely to see people come along to support and see the competition play out.

On the night, the Moyvane club came out the most successful with players from the club winning 3 of the 6 titles up for grabs on the night. Some great games were played out on the night and everyone seemed to be glad that the championships were back and were getting to the bigger competitions of the season.

There a huge entry in the division 5 mens and ladies competitions which was great to see as it also allowed those who lost there first games to have another go in a plate competition. The same opportunity was afforded to the division 3 men as the draw there was also big enough to allow it.

Munster Senior & E closed Competition.

The Munster Senior and grade E competition took place Sunday last in the new SETU arena in Waterford. Several of our Kerry players travelled to this competition on the day.

In the grade E competition, Kelvin McNally (Listowel) won the grade E mens singles beating Yee Shik Tan from Cork in 2 sets 21.17 and 21.12. He also got to the final of the mixed with his partner from Clare after beating Adele O’Brien (Killarney) and her partner from Limerick in a closely contested 3set first round game.

Kerry also had players that travelled to the Senior competition who played very well on the day but were beaten by very strong competition in a series of close games.

Finally a big congratulations and well done to Sinead Galvin and Miriam Rohan who travelled to Lisburn in Northern Ireland to the Ulster Masters. Sinead won the singles in her respective age category and then Miriam and Sinead joined forces and came runners up in the ladies doubles.
