Badminton AssociationThe Tralee Presentation School Gym was the main focus of Kerry Badminton on Sunday last where the local County Badminton Club hosted their annual Paddy Sugrue tournaments which catered for Kerry division 2 to 5 players.

Over 70 players from North to South Kerry travelled to Tralee for these Lee Strand and Kellihers Mills sponsored tournaments and on the round robin basis there was no shortage of games for all players and vintage Badminton proved to be the main winner on the day with two out of the 3 finals having to go to the third set for decision.

Indeed the division 4 decider was a spectacle with two out of the 3 sets having to go to the tie break for a decision and in the other set there was but 2 points also between these worthy combatants.

This coming weekend, commencing on Friday night, sees a mixed bag of Badminton fare between Kerry County Doubles Championships and Munster Inter County league action.

The weekend sees the start of the mens and ladies doubles Kerry championships kindly sponsored by CPC.IE with divisions 1 and 3 taking court in the Killarney Presentation Gym on Friday night commencing at 7.30 sharp.

Both defending pairs of champions in division 1, Ciara O’Connor and Edel Broderick in the ladies and Tom Bourke and Eric Nelligan in the mens would be termed as odds on to defend their titles and it would be hard to oppose either of these pairings.

In division 3 on league form clubs Killarney and Moyvane would seem to hold the form tag.
The Kerry championships continue on Sunday in the Castleisland Community Centre with the division 5 ladies and mens doubles to commence at 12.15.

It would be a brave pundit that would try and pick a winner here in these championships but the Killarney, Dingle and Moyvane Clubs might be seen to hold strong hands in these competitions.
