A STUDENT at Kerry College of Beauty, Clash Campus was awarded a ‘Best in Ireland’ award from CIDESCO International at the recent CIDESCO Congress 2021 International Virtual Makeup and Body Art Competition.

Edel Joy, a Beauty Therapy Traineeship student from Listowel, won the award on Tuesday, September 8.

She competed with her interpretation of the theme ‘The Beauty of Tropical Paradise’ with a stunning visual full body creation on student Sara Conway, who is also a Beauty Therapy Trainee at the college. Edel worked for five hours live streaming to over 60 countries for this competition.

CIDESCO Judges from Japan, UK, Zurich and Indonesia were so impressed that Edel had remained committed to the training and continued to improve her skills, despite the move to blended learning (online with occasional onsite classes) caused by the pandemic.

Five instructors divided a group of thirty-six learners in to four separate classes to deliver the course in this manner. Edel is currently completing her work experience with Paradise Beauty in Tralee.

Edel said, “I’m beyond grateful to have gotten the opportunity to compete internationally in the CIDESCO Body Art Competition. The experience itself is surreal, this accomplishment is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life – but none of this would be possible without my amazing teacher Tara O’Halloran, who constantly pushes me outside of my comfort zone and sees the passion, potential and determination I have inside me.

“She truly goes above and beyond for every one of her students. My time in Kerry college of Beauty has been nothing short of amazing, I’ve loved every single minute of it. The support and opportunities they have given me is out of this world and I will never be able to thank them enough for that.”

Her instructor Tara O’Halloran said, “I am delighted to have been part of Edel’s learning journey throughout these unprecedented times.  I am so proud of her dedication and commitment to her skill as an exceptional makeup artist”.

The Kerry College of Beauty offers a full time CIDESCO, CIBTAC and ITEC spectrum of qualifications in a state of the Art new Spa facility with bespoke treatment and training rooms on Clash Campus.
