Kerry Community Groups To Receive Over €220,000 In Funding

Baile Mhuire CLG in Tralee is one of the groups in Kerry to receive funding.

FOUR community first responder groups in Kerry will receive €223,022.87  in CLÁR funding.

The funding will be used to purchase vehicles designed to transport people who have mobility issues or people being treated for cancer.

Community groups that perform roles such as transporting blood samples from hospitals and delivering medication, will also be supported under the initiative.

Mountain Rescue Teams, Air Ambulances and Sub-Aqua Groups are also to receive funding. The four Kerry groups allocated funding are:

• Kerry Cancer Support Group will receive €100,000 for the purchase of a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
• Baile Mhuire CLG will receive €50,000 for the purchase of a vehicle.
• Banna Community Rescue Boats Ireland will recieve €28,422.87 for the purchase of a vehicle.
• Killarney Water Rescue will receive €44,600 for the purchase of a vehicle.

Minister for Education and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD, Norma Foley welcomed the news saying: “This is welcome funding that will ensure that four vital first responder community groups in Kerry can continue to provide excellent care and key voluntary services to some of Kerry’s most vulnerable, enhancing the communities they serve.”
