TO coincide with the launch of Enterprise Month, the final of the Kerry County Council Local Enterprise Awards was held in Manor West Hotel on Monday afternoon.

Now in its third year, Enterprise Month’s objective is to shine a spotlight on just some of the enterprise activities on offer all year round across Kerry.

The month is a collaborative initiative between Kerry County Council, Kerry Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland, North, East & West Kerry Development; South Kerry Partnership Development, IRD Duhallow, IDA Ireland, Udarás na Gaeltachta and IT, Tralee (Centre for Entrepreneurship Enterprise Development – CEED). The Month gives established businesses and budding entrepreneurs an opportunity to network and discover the assistance available to them in growing and sustaining a business in Kerry. The month has become the annual ‘go-to event’ for entrepreneurs in Kerry.

In the awards this afternoon, the top prize was won by Murphy Marine Services of Valentia. First runner-up was Annascaul Black Pudding, second runner-up Ballyhar Foods and third runner up Sean Rush Dental, in Monavalley, Tralee.

The win for Murphy Marine Services means they will go on and represent Kerry in the National Enterprise Awards in Dublin this May.

The Awards – organised by the National network of Local Enterprise Offices – celebrate the achievements of Ireland’s micro-enterprise sector.

The awards recognise and celebrate the success stories of small business owners from all over the country. In addition to enjoying extensive media coverage, National Finalists will compete for a €20,000 Prize Fund.

There is a whole host of events taking place around the county during the next four weeks.  For a full schedule click here
