Kerry ETB Entry Is Runner-Up In National Competition For Apprentices

Apprentices from Kerry ETB Training Centre’s Stone Cutting and Masonry with their ‘Generation Apprenticeship’ competition entry which was runner-up in a national competition yesterday. Standing left to right Kieran Casey, Tim Lacey, Mary Liz Trant (SOLAS), Fred Browne, Andy O’Connor.

APPRENTICES from Kerry ETB Training Centre have come 2nd in the ‘Generation Apprenticeship’ National Competition in an award ceremony in Dublin on Monday.

The Kerry ETB Training Centre entry will now be displayed at the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) Headquarters ‘Construction House’ located on Canal Road, Dublin 6. The entry will be on display on the OPW Stand at Bloom 2018 at the RDS which runs May 31st to June 4th.

In an open competition, sponsored by ESB and the Construction Industry Federation, teams of apprentices were invited to use their skills to reproduce large scale 3D versions of the Generation Apprenticeship “A” brand.

The judging panel for the competition were well known Irish architect Dermot Bannon, Microsoft Senior Executive Noreen O’Hare and SOLAS Chief Executive Paul O’Toole.

Kerry’s entry – crafted in cut stone and solid wood on a structural steel base was produced by apprentice teams from 3 separate disciplines – Stonecutting & Stonemasonry, MAMF (Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitter) and Carpentry & Joinery in collaboration with sponsors Quilter Stonework, Irish Defence Forces, John Sweeney & Son Building Contractors and OPW Killarney.

The Kerry ETB team included instructors Tom Little and Darren Enright (Stone Cutting and Masonry), Tom Cronin (Fitting), Mike Horgan and John O’Keeffe (Carpentry) and Assistant Manager Christy Enright from Kerry ETB Training Centre in Tralee.
