The Department of Education ‘Looking at Our School 2016’ Quality Framework for Post Primary Schools closely links ‘highly effective practice’ to leadership and the framework is designed to ‘enable them to take ownership of their own development and improvement’.

The training programme is solution focused and promotes a change of perspective and mind-set within the school community in response to contemporary leadership roles.

The project also focuses on developing the leadership skills of non-post holders by empowering members of staff to assume these roles, especially aspiring future leaders.

The programme was facilitated by leading experts in the field from within Kerry ETB and external experienced personnel who are practitioners themselves, committed to their own ongoing professional learning and system improvement.

The sessions reflected Kerry ETB’s vision, mission and core values: inclusion, respect, equality, quality and learning to create a learning society in Kerry.

Jennifer Barry, Deputy Principal of Causeway Comprehensive School stated; “It is an honour to receive the endorsement from the CSL, it is a wonderful acknowledgement of the achievements of this programme to date. The Centre of School Leadership endorsement is important to our team and the wider Kerry Education and Training Board community, as our programme’s vision mirrors the vision of the CSL which is to create ‘…a community of school leaders, who feel supported and valued as professionals and who have access to high quality continuous professional development’. Indeed, the entire programme we developed has embodied this vision and the core values of Kerry ETB which are: Respect, Quality, Inclusion, Equality and Learning.”

Liam McGill, Deputy Principal, Coláiste Gleann Lí said; ”The programme has made a significant impact on the development of Leadership Capacity at school level and has been crucial in supporting present and future leaders in their role. The programme in its nature is dynamic in meeting the needs of schools in an ever-changing landscape. Kerry ETB has always been at the cutting edge and having this programme endorsed by the Centre of School Leadership demonstrates the quality of Kerry ETB’s CPD offering.”
