Kerry Fire Service Issues Advice In Wake Of Status Orange Forest Fire Warning

WITH a forecast of dry weather for the weekend a status Orange warning for forest fires has been issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine from today, Monday until midday on Friday.

Kerry Fire Service is asking the public to be extra vigilant over the next few days and has issued the following advice for the general public:

Wildfires can have catastrophic impacts on upland habitats and rural communities, putting homes, property and lives at risk and diverting emergency services from their main tasks.

Everybody has a part to play in protecting our unique rural landscapes, communities, habitats and forest resources from the threats posed by wildfire.

If you are out and about enjoying our countryside and forests, please help to reduce the risks of fire by keeping the following in mind:

• Do not light fires in or around forests or on open land
• Do not block forest entrances or roads when
• If you see a fire, report it immediately to the emergency services – Dial 999 or 112.
• Report any illegal and suspicious activity to the Gardai.
• Do not approach fires
• Do not attempt to extinguish fires yourself
