A Coffee morning event aims to brew up funds for Kerry Hospice Foundation next month.

Tv and Radio broadcaster, Claire Byrne, helped launch Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning which takes place on Thursday, September 17.

In 2014, €35,606 was raised from coffee mornings held across Kerry, this year the Kerry Hospice are hoping to add to that figure to fund the vital help they give to cancer sufferers and their families.

Representing The Kerry Hospice Association at the launch was Chairperson, Ted Moynihan.  “We now provide palliative day care and home care to 755 patients” he said.

“Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning helps raise the vital funds needed to continue to provide these services and funds this year will go towards our home care service, as well as the building of a brand new in-patient unit which is currently under construction” said Ted.

The new unit in Kerry General Hospital, will have 15 beds, all of which will be ensuite, and it is set to open in 2016.

A recent Irish Hospice Foundation survey reveals that three quarters of Irish people want to die at home – but the stark reality is that only one quarter will get to do so mainly due to lack of hospice services and a serious funding crisis.

All money raised locally stays locally and goes directly back to fund local Hospice care services. Hospice or palliative care is for patients and their families at the stage in a serious illness where the focus has switched from treatment aimed at cure to ensuring quality of life.

Registration advice and details on how to get your special complimentary Bewley’s fresh ground coffee pack can be obtained by contacting the Irish Hospice Foundation on (01) 679 3188.
