ARDFERT’s John Egan has been voted GAA.ie hurler of the week for his performance in Kerry’s fantastic victory over Offaly on Sunday.
Egan got 47% of the online vote ahead of the 2015 Hurler of The Year, Tj Reid, from Kilkenny on 35%.
The St Brendan’s man helped Kerry on the road to victory against Offaly when he struck for a goal at the beginning of the second half in Birr that cut Faithful County’s lead from six to three.
On the day, he hit 1-10 of Kerry’s total of 2-18. Egan has soldiered long and hard for Kerry and is long overdue this sort of recognition on the national stage.
Egan’s heroics weren’t enough however to save Kerry from a relegation playoff with Laois, which will take place in Austin Stack Park on Saturday, April 2 at 5pm.
Breakdown of votes
1. John Egan (Kerry) – 3,510 votes (47 per cent)
2. TJ Reid (Kilkenny) – 2,215 votes (35 per cent)
3. Conor McGrath (Clare) – 1,737 votes (23 per cent)
