Kerryman Appointed New Political Correspondent At RTE

Micheál Lehane from Cahersiveen is the new Political Correspondent with RTE.

RTÉ News has announced the appointment of RTÉ journalist, Mícheál Lehane, as Political Correspondent, succeeding David Davin Power, who recently retired.

Mícheál, who grew up in Cahersiveen, is currently a member of RTÉ’s Political Unit, Mícheál Lehane joined RTÉ in 2004.

A big fan of Kerry GAA, Micheál studied Media, Communications and Philosophy at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick.

He began his career with The Kingdom newspaper in Killarney and later joined The Irish Examiner where he worked for three years. He is married to Áine and has three children: Sadhbh, Ruaidhrí and Donnacha.

He has worked on all the major political stories for RTÉ News and The Week in Politics for more than a decade.

Mícheál is a regular contributor to Morning Ireland, News At One and Drivetime and he has also presented political programmes on RTÉ television.

He has received widespread praise for his in depth political analysis and he helped pioneer innovative political features for RTÉ News online.

Commenting on his new role Mícheál said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started in this job. It’s a real honour to have been chosen. I think this is a really interesting time in Irish politics and I’m relishing the chance to report on it.”
