KERRY travelled to Lemybrien in Waterford on Saturday evening, to face ‘cailíní na nDéise’ in the semi-final of the Munster Junior Camogie Championship.

This was a much-fancied Waterford outfit with a panel of 32 players on the evening while Kerry travelled with just 18 players due to injuries.

Kerry hit the ground running and were two points to one up at the 7 minute mark before a Niamh Murphy free levelled matters in the 11th.

Patrice Diggin then put Kerry back in front in the 15th and Bríd Horan put Kerry two ahead in the 17th minute.

Kerry then got a grip on the game and went in with a 0-8 to 0-2 halftime lead. Kerry had a good range of scorers in the first half with Sara Murphy contributing four points, Patrice Diggin scoring two with one each from Jackie Horgan and Bríd Horan.

Upon the resumption, two Niamh Murphy frees in the 3rd and 9th minutes of the second half left the score at 0-8 to 0-4.

However, Kerry stretched their lead to six by the 10th minute of the half before Niamh Murphy made it 0-10 to 0-6 with two more frees in the 13th and 16th minutes.

Kerry got the decisive score in the 20th minute when Laura Collins found the Waterford net to put Kerry 1-11 to 0-6 ahead.

Both teams exchanged late points to leave the final score at Kerry 1-12 Waterford 0-7. This was a brilliant evening for Kerry Camogie as they had to make a very long journey to play a strong Waterford side.

Kerry will now play Cork in the Munster Final after the Cork girls overcame Limerick in the other semi-final.
