“This is the story of a well-known and long established event that is truly community based and built around a town. It is about food offerings and local suppliers, with local sponsorship.  The creativity is in the local sourcing food and its presentation, which the judges thought innovative and outstanding!”

The Valentia Island Development Company were runners up in the Community Tourism category, losing out to Kilkenny’s Castlecomer Discovery Park.

Sponsored by IPB Insurance, the Pride of Place competition was initiated 18 years ago though a Co-operation Ireland programme to acknowledge the invaluable work undertaken by volunteers and those involved in local community development.

It has grown into the largest competition recognising community development achievements on the island of Ireland.
