Kerry Rose And Mayor Of Tralee Launch Rose 10k

TRALEE Harriers Athletic Club have announced details of their route for their annual ROSE10K with Mayor of Tralee Terry O’Brien and this year’s Kerry Rose Breda O’Mahony jointly launching the event.

The race is scheduled to take place on August 20 at 11.30am and will be started by reigning Rose of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney at the Tralee Wetlands Centre, with the final stretch in the newly revamped Denny Street, which is sure to provide a fitting finale.

Speaking at the announcement, long time supporter of all things athletic, Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Terry O’Brien said; “I am delighted that Tralee Harriers are holding this event on the Sunday morning of the festival.

“Tralee Harriers are a fantastic group that have nurtured and promoted athletics in the greater Tralee area for many years and  I know this will be a huge success because of their involvement in this event.  I would also like to wish them well with their improvement works at their facilities in O’Regan Park”.

Race Director, Martin O’Sullivan expressed his delight with the route and promises that the event will appeal to runners of all levels.

He also conveyed his thanks to the Rose of Tralee Festival, Kerry’s Eye, Byrne’s Spar,The Rose Hotel, Tralee CBS, the Wetlands Centre and Radar Sports for their continued support and also the local community in Tralee along the route.

Speaking on behalf of the club, chairman Martin Fitzgerald praised the efforts of all of the coaches, officers and volunteers for their massive contribution to the ROSE10K, the third race in the annual series of runs.

He added; “With our exciting progress at our training field in O’Regan Park, our membership continues to grow and we continue to have significant successes on the track, field and road. The ROSE10K is the flagship event for the club and we look forward to it being one of the top 10Ks in the country with an international reputation. We would encourage runners of all levels to enter, as it is sure to be an enjoyable occasion with everyone a winner”.

Leading Tralee Harriers athletes Derek Griffin and Michelle Greaney were also in attendance and the launch was hosted by Mark Sullivan, General Manager of the Rose Hotel.
