Over 600 extra SNA posts in all will be created nationally. The new allocation includes approximately 25 SNA posts for mainstream primary and post primary schools in Kerry and a further two posts for special schools in the county. Schools such as Scoil Muire Gan Smal, Castleisland, St Oliver’s N.S. Killarney and Colaiste Gleann Lí, Tralee will benefit.

Approximately 55% of the additional posts will be provided to support students in mainstream classes while 45% of posts will serve students in special classes in mainstream schools or in special schools. The additional allocation follows a significant increase in assessed need.

Fine Gael Minister Jimmy Deenihan and Labour Deputy Arthur Spring have welcomed the allocation, which bring the total number of whole-time SNA posts available in our primary and post-primary schools to 11,820, an 11.7% increase since the Government came to office.
