The player delivered a workshop with the students on developing life skills through sport. The workshop is the latest strand of the school’s continuing programme of personal development for its students.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for students to listen to and learn from someone who is particularly relevant to their lives,” said Coláiste Gleann Lí PE teacher, John Creagh.

“It was especially timely given the All-Ireland is approaching and we are very thankful to Darran for taking time out of his busy training schedule to be with us today,” said John.

The school has a developed and implemented a positive school-environment plan which has seen student-led initiatives to ensure their school is a safe, happy place free from bullying.

The Kerry footballer was there in his capacity as Sky Sports mentor. The mentoring programme uses sports stars and the skills learned through sport to build confidence and develop life skills in young people.

The experience for students is drawn on the personal stories of the athletes and how they themselves got through the challenges of adolescence.

The speedy former All-Star was at ease as he chatted with students about the upcoming final date with the Dubs, which could land his fifth All-Ireland medal.
