THE popular vocalist, teacher and choir leader, Gemma Sugrue is Kerry’s 2018 local Culture Night Ambassador.

Killarney native Gemma will be promoting the night in Kerry on Friday, September 21, as Culture Night kicks off right across Ireland between the hours of 5pm and 11pm.

Gemma is a passionate supporter of music and the arts and is supporting this year’s national catchphrase for Culture Night that ‘Culture is Catching’.

She is happy to promote and advocate the support of culture locally and is calling out to all ages and especially to young people ‘to check out the programme and take part in an arts event, there’s huge choice’.

“Some of my fondest memories of growing up in Kerry include getting the opportunity to participate and perform with various local musical ensembles. I believe everyone is creative in different ways and that art in whatever form, is one of the best ways of expressing that creativity. Take your opportunity to join us, for free, at your local culture night event and see what role culture in Kerry could play in your life.”, stated Gemma at the launch for Culture Night in Kerry at County Buildings this week.

Trying something different, visiting a gallery, theatre, museum or arts centre, is the message and “our arts and cultural venues offer up a wonderful mix of free events that are fun-filled and very family friendly”, says Mayor of Kerry, Councillor Norma Foley.

The variety on offer ensures there is an event that will appeal to everyone, with free events, tours, talks, screenings & performances that suit all tastes and ages. Culture Night is an easy-going, relaxed way of enjoying arts and culture locally.

In Tralee and Killarney, visitors can go from venue to venue, sampling art, music, film, literature and dance, while from Listowel to Kenmare there are multiple events to choose from across all the art forms.

All events are free for the people to enjoy. For more details go to www.culturenight.ie/kerry  or www.culturekerry.com
