KERRY Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris has welcomed the announcement that hip and knee (arthoplasty) surgical procedures are to resume at University Hospital Kerry.

General manager at UHK, Fearghal Grimes, apologised to patients who had been waiting a long time for procedures and they would soon be contacted by the hospital.

Speaking yesterday Deputy Ferris said; “I welcome today’s announcement that arthoplasty surgical procedures are to resume at University Hospital Kerry next week. I have been contacted by many patients who are waiting for these procedures for lenghty periods. This announcement is long overdue and will give some relief to patients who had given up hope of having these operations in Kerry.”

“I have asked the Minister for Health why these procedures were not taking place at present at UHK, this situation cannot be allowed happen again as too many people in Kerry are waiting in pain to have these operations, the least they should expect is to be able to have them carried out at their own county hospital.”
