AN LGBT community group will host an event next Saturday night featuring some great music from a local musician.

Members of ‘ScEEN in Kerry’ an LGBT community group have come together to tackle a lack of LGBT Visibility in Kerry.

Recent research administered by the HSE, KDYS and Listowel Family Resource centre ‘a living perspective of LGBT+ in Kerry’ reported that individuals feel more content within themselves when they come out, however, they can also feel more challenges living in more rural areas than urban life.

The research indicates that many may feel anxious and socially isolated because there’s nowhere to go in which to feel fully themselves with other people from the LGBT community.

The absence of LGBT collective social spaces pushes many to move from their homes to other cities around the country.

ScEEN in Kerry is a clear response to the study. The ScEEN in Kerry group feel energised to bring the LGBT+ community together by creating more social platforms throughout the years ahead.

To finish the end of the year a Christmas social event will be held on Saturday, November 23 at the Ashe Hotel, Tralee from 8pm to 12pm. It’s inclusive to all members of the LGBT+ community in Kerry and their mates and family.

The talented musician, Owen Rua, will be performing on the night. Local Tralee DJ Ricky Clifford will close the night with classics and a bit of fun pop to dance the night away.  More info available on the ‘ScEEN in Kerry’ Facebook page by clicking here

Maybe the LGBT community group should choose a venue to meet up on a regular basis!

Everyone knows about The George, Dublin’s only LGBTQ nightclub.

Why not try to establish an official pub/club in Tralee. I am sure there would be a supportive Tralee business person willing to make their venue available to accommodate Kerry’s LGBT community on a regular basis?
