TRALEE LIONS Club have launched a  new life saving initiative called ‘Message in a Bottle’.

‘Message in a Bottle’ is an information system which has the full co-operation of the emergency services and local GP’s and pharmacies.

The scheme works like this; if the emergency services are ever called to your home, they will be be met by a green sticker on your door or fridge.

This will notify them that in your fridge there is a bottle with all your medical information on it. At such a critical time, this information could be life saving.

“The response so far has been very good,” said Veronica Kelly of Tralee Lions Club.

“About 17 pharmacies have come on board in Tralee, so they have been really receptive.  The gardaí have really got behind it also because they know a lot of people in the community who are vulnerable and that this could help,” said  Veronica.

To help promote ‘Message in a Bottle’, members of the Lions Club were at Oakpark Medical Centre bringing bottles to pharmacies and GPs for them to distribute.
