Tralee Foodies To Flock To Listowel Next Month

A MIGRATION of Tralee foodies will happen next month when the 2oth anniversary of the Listowel Food Fair takes place next month

The mouth watering programme of events, for the week-long event from Monday November 17 to Sunday November 23,  includes a Gala Dinner and Awards, Craft Beer Symposium, Farming Seminar, Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards and extensive programme of workshops and events.

Popular events from previous years make a welcome return including, Cookery Competitions, the Craft Fair, an expanded programme of workshops for all ages with a focus on children and the continuation of the much anticipated and prestigious Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards.

Listowel Food Fair Gala Dinner and Awards is one of the highlights of the week and will be held in the Listowel Arms Hotel on Saturday.

As well as the conferring of the Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards and the announcement of the winners of other competitions, the evening will feature the official announcement and presentation of the Listowel Food Fair Lifetime Achievement Award.

Simon Coveney, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine will be a guest speaker  ‘The important roles of young people & women in farming’ event on Monday in the Ballroom of the Listowel Arms Hotel.

An exciting new element  of this year’s fair is the Craft Beer Symposium on Friday in St. John’s Theatre. Speakers will include experts from the Brewing Dog in Scotland, and other industry leaders, and it promises to be both an enlightening insight into this fast emerging industry.

Other highlights over the 20th Listowel Food Fair include a special evening on Thursday, November 20 in the Listowel Arms Hotel, entitled from ‘Farm to Fork’ featuring food demonstrations by local chefs and culinary talks by experts in the meat and fish Industry.

The evening will conclude with a delicious showcase by sponsor Pallas Foods involving chocolate and wines! On Friday, November 21, the well known Kerry based chef and TraleeToday.ie food writer, Mark Doe, will host a cooking demonstration focused on how best to reduce food waste with some creative, easy to create dishes.

There is also have an extensive programme of workshops, including Coeliac Information and cooking demonstration by Richard Sheehan, and the always popular children’s workshops. All Workshops sell out very quickly so early booking is advised.
