A FURTHER €1,365,226 in funding has been granted for the Listowel Food Hub Project.

This endeavour, led by the North East West Kerry Development (NEWKD), will deliver a 12,000 sq. ft. Food Hub facility at Clieveragh Business Park, Listowel, comprises of five food production units and a fully fitted Research and Development suite.

€1.3m for the project was previously announced in November 2019.

The funding will mitigate against any increases arising from more detailed design and costs information, inflation costs in respect of labour and materials, COVID -19 procedures and supply-chain reactions to Brexit.

Minister Norma Foley welcomed the news, saying: “I welcome the news that funding has been approved for a wonderful not-for-profit initiative which will showcase and promote a host of artisan food businesses under one roof. This development will also provide a welcome boost to the North Kerry economy.”

It is understood that the project will take approximately 12 months to complete once it commences on site, which should be shortly following the easing of public health restrictions.
