Tralee’s Jobless Figure Decreases By 13 Per Cent In A Year

Social Welfare OfficeTHE number of people signing on the Live Register in Tralee has gone below 5,000 again as the CSO figures for the month of August shows a decrease of 109 on the previous month.

There are now 4,974 people jobless in the Tralee area, down from 5,713 in August 2015, a 13 per cent drop. Overall in Kerry there has been a 14 per cent drop in Kerry in the past year.

During August, 10,544 people signed on in Kerry’s social welfare offices compared to 12,298 in August 2015.

Four other social welfare offices in the county reported monthly drops with Killarney down 47 to 1,476; Listowel was down 16 to 2,138 and Dingle down the same number to 468 and Killorglin was down 15 to 845.

However, Kenmare’s jobless figure rose by seven to 286 and Caherciveen’s was up four to 357.

Thats because most of the unemployed are been put on CE Schemes and Internships and made do FAS courses and this is called juggling the figures for the media… Still having nearly 5000 people unemployed in a small town like Tralee is still very high and compared to the 1980s when the town had loads of factories and employment etc i am sad to say that the town is going backwards and not forwards and its still impossible to find decent paid work !!
