Our hurling writer, Mike O’Halloran, on the minor hurling championship final played yesterday in Abbeydorney

Lixnaw 3-18

South Kerry 1-9

Lixnaw completed leg one of a possible double of minor and senior hurling championship titles, when they completely out classed a gallant South Kerry outfit in Abbeydorney on Saturday afternoon.

Lixnaw played against the breeze in the first half and were three points to one up after four minutes before South Kerry got in gear and by seventeen minutes South Kerry led by two six points to four.

Three minutes later they led by five points; 1-6. to 0-4 when Aron Murphy of Dr Crokes kicked the slioter to the net.

South Kerry led 1-8 to 0-6 points at half time, but with Lixnaw having the last two scores of the first half and the aid of a stiff breeze in the second half the writing looked on the wall for them.

South Kerry opened the scoring in the second half with a point from Kilgarvan man Patrick O Shea. That was to be South Kerry’s only score for the remainder of the game.

From once Lixnaw got their first goal through Jason Keane to make it 1-6 to 1-9, they drove home the momentum the goal gave them.

Keane had a second goal on five minutes and from there on it was all Lixnaw as they ran out easy winners with another goal coming from Colin Sheehy on twenty minutes and a pletera of points from John Buckley.

Lixnaw captain Davin Quilter was presented with The Sean Lovett trophy, and John Buckley was awarded man of the match.
