THERE’S great plans afoot to transform the Churchill Forge into a wonderful attraction for people of all ages by next spring.

Thanks to generous donations from Kerry Group, Fred and Kay Krehbiel of Churchill House and NEWKD, the Spa Fenit Community Council has €100,000 to use to upgrade the existing Forge which is situated across from the church.

The renovations will include an additional exhibition space, kitchenette, toilets and ancillary accommodation.

The increased exhibition area will include many additional memorabilia and artefacts associated with the ancient skills of the blacksmith and it is proposed to have regular demonstrations of horse-shoeing and iron crafts in the summer months.

The amenity will be an attraction for the many school tours that visit the locality as well as other visitors and tourists travelling on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The Committee is also planning social evenings which will showcase all that is best in cultural entertainment and can be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

They are also installing a waste water treatment unit polishing filter and associated works. Parkway Contracts Ltd has already started work on the extension and hopes are all will be in place for March/April 2018.

Work has already begun on the extension.
