THE Kerins O’Rahillys GAA Club 10k/5k race returns again later this month and this time it will honour a local man who has served the club and local community over the past 40 years.

After 41 years teaching in Holy Family school, Francie Quill retired from his role as Deputy Principal in June last year, but during those decades he taught and trained many young footballers from Kerins O’Rahillys and other clubs.

Francie is father of former Kerry player Declan who has served the club with distinction over the years.

The race itself takes place on Sunday, January 27 at 11am. It is a chip-timed event open to runners and walkers and beginning at 11am. There are individual men’s and women’s categories and a teams of four event.

The route is similar to other years taking in Ballyvelly, The Kerries, Knockanish culminating in a lap of Cahills Park before crossing the finish line in the club house. Each finisher gets a special medal.

The event is on the same day as the Kerry footballers first game of the Allianz National Football league when they take on Tyrone in Killarney (throw in @ 2pm) so runners will have plenty of time to make the game afterwards.

Registration is €20 and people can register online by clicking here on Saturday, January 26 between 2pm and 8pm in the clubhouse or on the morning of the race between 8am and 10.30am.
