A LOCAL man is hosting a 24 Hour Swimathon to help out a little girl who is battling cancer.

Colin ‘Poshey’ Aherne has organised the event to take place on Saturday, January 18 at 3pm in Tralee Sports Complex for 24 hours with roughly 48 swimmers swimming a half a hour each during the 24 hours in one lane.

Also if any kids want to take part, they can take 15 mins slots. Many people have already put their names forward to take to the pool, but more are required.

Each person that takes a 30 mins slot can donate on the day, or online, or get a fundraising card and try to raise a few euro for such an amazing, strong girl, Amber O’Connor from Cromane.

Three year old Amber was diagnosed with Metastatic Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) a rare, and aggressive, type of cancer, back in September and has been through an ordeal over the past few months.

It’s been a rough December too for Amber, with surgery on December 6 followed by chemotherapy a week before Christmas, but she’s a brave little girl and she’s battling through.
