THEATRE returns to The Ballymac Bar this Thursday night with a play penned by a local man.

Hy-Breasal Productions will stage Frank Houlihan’s absurd Kerry comedy, ‘Mikey Tatey Saves Arraglin’, at the Boherbee premises at 8.30pm.

There are eight actors on stage in this production, all travelling to perform from Dublin, Kildare and Laois.

Hy-Breasal, founded by Frank Houlihan, takes its name from the mythological island that is said to rise amidst the mist off the west coast of Ireland every seven years.

The production company specialises in staging performances in simple black box settings. In this instance, entrance is by way of donation – whatever you can afford.

Since its establishment, Hy-Breasal has staged plays all over Ireland, in England and in Spain. In 2018, it performed two of John B. Keane’s lesser known one acts, The Pure of Heart and Backwater at Listowel Writers’ Week.

Frank Houlihan’s ‘Mikey Tatey Saves Arraglin’ is an award winning comedy and the fourth in the Mikey Tatey Tetralogy.

Billy Keane has described the Mikey Tatey comedies has a crazy mix of John B. Keane and Fr. Ted. Frank has four other plays and many adaptations in his catalogue.  Hy-Breasal’s, last production, Bloomsday Tralee, was a huge success.

Frank is very grateful to Patrick Creagh and the Creagh family of the Ballymac Bar for their support, to Pat Roche for his invaluable assistance and to Tommy Sweeney for his expertise.

Mikey Tatey Saves Arraglin will also be staged in Brandon, West Kerry, the following night in the Halla le Chéile, at 7pm.
