THE lock gates have been repaired which means water will can be kept in the canal so rowers will be a welcome, regular sight again.
The repairs were made on Tuesday with divers helping Kerry County Council staff and Kelliher crane hire with the operation so the gates can be opened and closed again.
“The canal is a public amenity so we had to get it back working,” said Frank Hartnett, senior executive engineer, at Kerry County Council.
“There’s a new boat club being built by the Marina, to be fair to them without the canal being operational it’s no good to them, because they need to have water all the time in the canal,” said Frank Hartnett.
