Credit Union Santa

Santa Claus surfing in the window of Tralee Credit Union on Ashe Street.

IS Santa right in the head?

It’s a bit unseasonal for him to be making an appearance in July, but there he is in the window of the Credit Union in Ashe Street.

There is method to this madness though, as it’s all to remind people to start saving for Christmas.

This week is the half way mark to Christmas with 26 weeks to go and the Union is subtly reminding everyone that over the next six months there is still time to save for the most expensive time of year.

“We’ve done this a few years now and seen first hand at Christmas the positive response from members who took our advice,” said Fintan Ryan, Tralee Credit Union’s CEO.

“This year we thought a Surfing Santa might be a subtle reminder for people to “Catch this Wave and Save” We are not trying to depress anyone by focusing in on Christmas, we simply want to relieve the financial stress by planting the seed in peoples’ minds, that if you start saving €10 this week and every week to Christmas, you’ll have €260 saved, save €20 a week you’ll have €520 saved, whatever amount you can afford really”.

Poor Santa, he must be sweltering on a day like today.
