Russell Street

THERE’S a real feel around town now that Christmas is around the corner.

The crowds are in the town centre, East 17’s ‘Stay Another Day’ is slithering out of the speakers and it’s getting colder.

‘What better to warm up the body than a Mexican dish’ I thought. I headed into ‘Dish’ on Russell Street for the first time, as I’d heard great things about their burritos.

It was about 1.30pm on Friday and there were only about four table taken up which was unusual as the cafe itself is nicely laid out with a big comfy leather couch near the window to watch the world go by.

Cuban music was the order of the day and despite one particular Spanish salsa version of the Gloria Estefan song ‘Anything For You’ sounding a little unsettling, it was a nice atmosphere.

Miami Sound Machinations aside , I sat down and scanned the menu where the burritos feature prominently and are reasonably priced.

There were burritos of the breakfast, chicken, pulled pork, vegetarian and, er, ‘hangover’ variety. However, my attention was drawn to the Beef Goulash (€8.50) on the specials board so I decided to take a rain cheque on the burrito.

After a short time the goulash arrived on a bed of rice. The beef was really tender with peppers, carrots and a sauce which I thought it needed a little more seasoning. It was still very tasty though and  good value.

I followed it up with a good cappuccino and the bill came to €10.90.

I’m sure over Christmas I’ll get to that ‘hangover’ burrito.
