KERRY County Council has decided to close Main Street in Killarney to traffic on weekends during July and August, beginning on the weekend of Saturday, 10 July 2021.
It’s believed the closure will contribute towards the achievement of an outdoor summer in Killarney over the coming months and improve pedestrian safety in the town centre.
Following the receipt of submissions on the matter under Section 75 of the Roads Act, the Council has decided to close Main Street to vehicular traffic from Saturdays at 11am to Mondays at 8am (extended to Tuesday on the August Bank Holiday Weekend).

Kerry County Council also engaged with An Garda Síochana as part of the consideration of the proposal.
Cathaoirleach of the Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Brendan Cronin said that the elected members in the area requested that the closures be monitored and reviewed as the weeks progress.
