A NEW multi-sports facility is being planned for Ardfert.

A number of sports clubs in Ardfert village have come together to plan an exciting community sports facility for future generations to enjoy.

Ardfert Community Council, Ardfert Football club, Ardfert/Kilmoyley Community Games, Ardfert Youth Club, Athletico Ardfert, St Brendan’s Athletics club and St. Brendan’s hurling club have joined forces to plan a multi sports facility which will be situated centrally in the village and can be used by people from the village and surrounding areas.

The land at An Fearann, Ardfert has been made available to the community and the group plans to start developing the field next year.

Phase one of the project includes the laying of a GAA pitch and the development of a running/walking trail around the perimeter of the field.

Later phases include dressing rooms, a soccer pitch, sprint track, long jump and high jump facilities as well as a full size sports hall.

In order to fund phase one of the project the group recently submitted an application under the Sports Capital Grants scheme and hope for a positive announcement by the end of the year so that work can commence in the Spring.

Plans for the field were put on public display during the summer and are still available for viewing at Ardfert Community Centre.

The group are open to feedback from the public and are also inviting other community groups to join the team to ensure that the facility is developed to meet everyone’s needs.
