Man Arrested In Tralee Estate In Relation To Attempted Burglary

GARDAI have arrested and charged a man in relation to an attempted burglary in Tralee on Wednesday.

Shortly before 5am Gardaí received a 999 call from a member of the public that a suspicious man was walking around the Shanakill area.

The information was relayed to Gardaí from Tralee, who carried out a patrol of the area and arrested a man, aged in his 30s.

Gardaí also discovered a screwdriver wedged in between the door and the frame of a house nearby.

The man was brought to Tralee Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Cork City District Court this morning at 10.30am.

Crime Prevention Officer for the Kerry Garda Division, Sergeant Jim Foley said; “I would like to thank the member of the public for picking up the phone and calling us. Their assistance enabled the Gardaí to respond more quickly.

“Having good neighbours looking out for their community is invaluable. I would encourage everybody to call us immediately if they notice anything suspicious, and not to hesitate in doing so.”
