Free Breast Cancer Seminar This Thursday In Tralee

Kerry Cancer Support Group 1KERRY Cancer Support Group, in conjunction with The Marie Keating Foundation, will be holding a free breast cancer seminar in the The Rose Hotel this Thursday from 6.30pm to 9pm.

The event is open to the general public and will explore how to prevent, detect and survive breast cancer, which is the most common female cancer in Ireland.

The seminar will also include advice on what you should know about your own breasts and body and what key questions you should ask your GP and oncologist should you be sent for tests or diagnosed with the disease. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and speak to the Marie Keating Foundation nurse one-on-one.The event is free of charge but registration is essential.

Some of the speakers on the night will be Helen Forristal from the Marie Keating Foundation, Dr. Mary McCaffrey, The Scotia Clinic, Tralee, Susan Barrett giving a talk on mindfulness and a breast cancer survivor available to give advice on the night. Register by clicking here

County Kerry has a breast cancer incidence of 73.13 per 100,000 which is second only to Co Tipperary according to the National Cancer Registry.  However, the survival rate for breast cancer continues to improve thanks to early detection and improvements in treatments. There are now approximately 121,000 breast cancer survivors in Ireland.
