SINN Féin TD Martin Ferris will be the keynote speaker at their annual Easter Rising commemoration in Tralee this Sunday.

The commemoration in Tralee will leave The Square at 12.30pm on Easter Sunday and proceed to the Republican Plot in Rath graveyard.

Before leaving The Square a woman dressed in a Cumann na mBán uniform will read the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. The event will be chaired by Councillor Damian Quigg from Killorglin.

Speaking ahead of the commemoration, Deputy Ferris said; “Sinn Féin remains committed to the realisation of the vision of 1916 and the implementation of the principles of the Proclamation.

“Kerry saw some of the pivotal events of Easter Week 1916 and in the revolutionary years that followed it. I am honoured to be the speaker at this years commemoration in Tralee and I am encouraging people to attend in memory of our patriot dead.”

On Saturday in Killorglin Sinn Féin will commemorate the lives of Irish Volunteers Con Keating, Donal Sheahan and Charlie Monaghan who drowned at Ballykissane Pier in 1916. A wreath laying ceremony will take place at 12pm at the pier.
