Mary O’Donnell hard at work for Youngblood Ireland.

I HAVE taken to touring Ireland with Youngblood Ireland which is a mineral luxury cosmetic company. It is designed by Pauline Youngblood a lady from LA with a medical background.

She believed that after procedures that there was not a make-up range that was gentle to the skin that also provided great coverage.

The quality of this range is second to none; it is a great makeup but it also provides a treatment for your skin as you are wearing it.

Mineral makeup is free from all the nasties that are in so many make-ups and this does not clog your skin and has sun protection in their products.

There is a lovely natural light reflective in the foundation that  is very flattering.

So my job is providing a masterclass on how to apply this range. I am loving it and I am so impressed by this range and its benefits to the skin.

It is not available here yet, but I will keep you updated. On my way home from a masterclass in Thurles I was listening to 2FM and the ‘Galway Player’ was on.

Hannons

He is Ireland’s leading male dating specialist and he is normally a pup – but a funny one. His topic was make-up and for once I agreed with almost everything he said.

He felt that when ladies make an effort to do make-up properly that men appreciate it but felt that make-up was usually over-applied.

Fake tan was also a big no-no for him. Chris from ‘Chris and Ciara’ on 2fm said he had his make-up done for T.V. recently and liked how good his skin looked.

The following week I knew I would be in Galway For Youngblood  and invited The Galway player to attend and have his make-up done.

When he arrived the Galway ladies really enjoyed his wit and he told us he would be talking about the event on radio. There was a queue for photos but alas he is anonymous so we had to put a bag on his face to protect his identity. Recently while dancing for Strictly Come Dancing he wore a complete spandex suit while dancing to hide his identity.

On TV interviews he is blacked out like someone in witness protection.

He willingly had his make-up applied, primer and foundation. Sting uses Youngblood cosmetics as they are natural and not tested on animals.

That night The Galway player was attending a blogger event before he was going on the radio. With his new face of perfectly applied make-up the bloggers never guessed a thing.

People told him he looked great and that his skin was amazing. This was his point; makeup should look natural and enhance your skin.He said he felt his pores looked smaller and skin felt natural but he felt more confident about his appearance.

I attend a lot of beauty events and all the male makeup artists I meet have foundation on and in my experience wear it well.

The question is why should men be discriminated against in these equal times.

If a guy has a skin complaint, whether it be a breakout or open pores, why not apply something that will make him feel more confident going out in the world?

I have applied makeup for a good few grooms for the photos. One had a run in with a hurley a few nights before the nuptials , I  did his makeup at 9am and the bride at 11am, both were very happy with the results.

One groom had some bruise as his intended accidentally slammed the car door in his face while taking the wedding cake out. The grooms were very glad of the makeup and no one was any the wiser.

The beauty business is a booming one but is not catering for half the population. I feel it will not be long and with the right products and the right advertising the male make-up will be in on its way.

The foundation will be cleverly packaged and called something like face-fix or face under construction. The Galway player has now added a new place for men to meet women at beauty events and is very willing to be the Irish version of Sting!
