MARC Sinclair was a big hit in CH Chemist recently.

Marc is one of Lancome’s elite makeup artists and is a big deal in the world of makeup. Marc was a professional ballet dancer before he trained as a makeup artist.

He does makeup for the BAFTAs, London Fashion Week and has done the honours for Kate Middleton and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. He said “a face is just a face” but he knows his stuff. This charming Scottish man wowed over 100 people at the event.

He spoke about the importance of keeping the skin clean morning and night. The audience were very well informed and cleansed, toned and moisturised at night but by day they did not repeat the process.

Marc explained that our skin produced sweat at night and if not cleansed we were putting make-up on over dirty skin.

The Serum that Marc recommended was Visionnaire. He believes in using it morning and night and a small amount is all that is needed. With regular use he said that skin looks brighter and fresher after a very short time.

Marc commented on the importance of using a primer – the secret to a flawless makeup. He felt anyone under 40 could use La Base primer to even out skin tone as it is oil free and very smoothing.

Anyone over 40 needs a little more help in the form of Visionnaire One Minute blur as it works on lines before makeup and stops makeup from settling into lines. This is Marc’s favourite product.

When it comes to foundation he never puts this near the eyes and always applies with a foundation brush for a more even finish and this also avoids waste of product.

Applying the foundation with a whisking action and holding the brush at the end as this stops makeup looking too heavy. This tip really works. It takes a bit of practice but has a great result.

Blusher he explained is applied over bronzer to give the effect of chiseled cheekbones.

What he did under the eyes impressed me most. He drew a large triangle under the eyes down the cheek and filled in with Effacernes under eye concealer and the result was amazing.

Brows are a big deal for Marc and said we should all have a brow kit to define the eyes and use the wax to set. When he had one eye done, we all gasped at the difference.

He used the Lancome palette which has 5 colours to make the eyes pop but explained the kit came with instructions, it was like colour by numbers and was very easy to follow.

Mascara was Grandiose, which has a swan like neck applicator and to me is the equivalent to false lashes and my favourite mascara at the moment.

Lips were outlined and filled in with a berry colour which is perfect for this time of year. The look was flawless and very achievable and looked very natural.

I asked Marc about trends for the festive season after he attended London Fashion Week. He said metallics are big for the season and if you are going metallics with eyes then he recommended nude lip so as not to over do it. He also favored toned down eyes and the festive red lip also.

I think everyone learned something from this talented funny man. He spoke about recognising your skin tone and working with it. Cool has pink, red or blueish undertones. Warm has yellow, peachy or golden undertones. Neutral is a mix of warm and cool.

He advised to check veins. If blue you have cool undertones and if the veins are green you are warm. This is very handy to know when looking for foundation and lipsticks.

If Marc is ever back in town again I highly recommend to see him for information and a great night out.
